Alan is a Clinical Social Worker (Alberta), Registered Marriage & Family Therapist (Canada, USA), and Certified Play Therapist (Canada). He earned his Ph.D. in Social Work from The University of Toronto and clinical MSW from The University of Calgary. As a therapist, educator, and researcher Alan's excellence and commitment to the mental health field has been recognized via governmental and university awards including the 2018 Alberta College of Social Work (ACSW), Clinical Social Work Practice Award. He is an award winning educator at a Canadian University where he specializes in child, adolescent, and family mental health. Alan has published extensively in this area, including co-authoring Evergreen: A Child & Youth Mental Health Framework for Canada. He has practiced mental health therapy, family counselling, and play therapy for over 25 years, employed in senior positions in leading children's hospitals. For the last decade Alan was privileged to work as a family therapist and supervisors with Dr. Karl Tomm's therapy centre. Alan is an approved supervisor with the ACSW, American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, Canadian Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, The Canadian Association for Play Therapy, as well as a member of the Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta. His areas of expertise include ADHD, anxiety, disruptive-behavioural issues, couple/marital counselling and family therapy / family-based issues (divorce/separation, parenting).
